This summer, Custer Road UMC is partnering with PISD/Christie Elementary School to provide kids breakfast and lunch each weekday throughout the summer. Custer Road UMC provides Summer Lunch kids’ parents an adult lunch, and families can then enjoy time in the Christie Elementary cafeteria with our volunteers playing games, having snacks, and visiting! A weekend food share table is open Fridays during lunch and outdoor games will be provided, weather permitting.
Over the past twelve summers, we have formed great relationships with the children and families who we serve and they know we are truly there to help. Our Summer Lunch Program (SLP) is about more than feeding the community, it’s about outreach. There are many families who attend worship at Custer Road UMC, children who attend VBS, and several more youth that have joined our Revelation Youth Choir and our youth group. As we continue to serve our community, it will become more common to see many more of these neighbors around our church.
We are excited to partner with PISD/Christie Elementary again this summer! Working together to provide meals for families throughout the week is such a blessing!

How can you help?
Help serve adult lunches, snacks, and connect with families:
We need volunteers to meet us at Christie Elementary (weekdays) June 2 – July 25 to set-up, help distribute adult lunches (kids lunches are provided by PISD/Christie Elementary School right next door), play games with kids, visit with the parents, clean-up and takedown.
When can you serve?
Whether you want to help daily, or can only serve one day in your schedule, we’d like to have you as part of the Summer Lunch team! Extra volunteers are needed on Fridays to pass out Weekend Snack Bags and help with the Share Table (providing fresh fruits and vegetables for Summer Lunch families to have through the weekend).
Volunteers in the Christie Elementary School Cafeteria (11:45am-1:30pm): All volunteers 18+ of age must have a current PISD background check. Click on the “Sign Up to Serve” button below for the PISD background check link and more details.
Volunteers at Big Lake Park (Fridays – 11:45am-1:30pm): All volunteers 18+ of age must have a current PISD background check. Click on the “Sign Up to Serve” button below for the PISD background check link and more details.

Gift Cards/Monetary Donations
If you are unable to volunteer at the school or purchase items, please consider a gift card (Sam's, Walmart, Amazon, or Jason's Deli) or monetary donation to our Summer Lunch Program. Your gift helps us to purchase water, adult meals (kids meals are provided by PISD/Christie Elementary School), weekend snack bag supplies, and italian ice for hot days at the park! Gift cards can be purchased through RaiseRight online, or at the church Monday-Thursday 9am-4:30pm. You can also purchase gift cards at one of the locations listed above. Drop off gift cards and checks at the church to Attn: Ryan Murphy.
THANK YOU to our donor who provided a monetary donation large enough to cover the Share Table all summer!
